My name is Miska Duri Suryanita.  Traditional dance has captured my heart since my childhood, I had been following many competitions and performing Indonesian traditional dances since I was 5 years old.  I then received a further 5 years advance training in artistic traditional dance by the Taman Budaya, West Nusa Tenggara (1996 to 2001). Taman Budaya is Indonesia’s art and culture department providing various courses of traditional cultural arts.

As far as Indonesian choreography is concerned, Bali and Lombok of Indonesia’s Nusa Tenggara are the centre where traditional dance has been people daily live, and Citra Sasak Dance Club has enjoyed its highest reputation in the field nationally and internationally, its members have been invited to perform at various events nationally and internationally including Australia, Darwin Festivals, Perth Festivals, Arafura Games, international hotels such as Holiday Inn and Novotel.

My experience as dance instructor include in the years of 2000 to 2003 I was an artistic dance instructor for the Art Studio (Studio Seni) Indonesia, in the years of 2005 to 2006 I was a traditional dance instructor for the Art Group of Indonesia’s Cultural and Tourism Office of West Nusa Tenggara Province.  In Australia, in year 2007 I touch Indonesian traditional dance for the Ballet class student of Casuarina Senior College, Darwin, Australia, and I coached Indonesian traditional dances as well as danced for the Australia’s Indonesian community for the community’s party in the course of Indonesia’s independent day 17 August 2007. I danced Indonesian traditional for the 2007 Flying Fox Art and Cultural Festival, Katherine.

Chipik Morris

Chipik Morris is an Architecture graduate and fromer Singapore Airlines cabin crew member. After a decade roaming the planet she settled in Perth, Westren Australia, joining Selendang Sutra in 2019.

Chipik has been dancing since before she can remember on the island of Borneo and her familiy home in Java. Alongside a busy family life and career in education, she enjoys promoting Indonesian culture through the medium of dance.

 

Nia Kurniawati

Nia Kurniawati


Nia Kurniawati is one of the dance teachers in Selendang Sutra Indonesian Dance Group. Dancing is a dedication in her life. Joining a dance group in Jakarta led her to become a dancer at festivals both at national and International. Nia came to Perth, because her husband worked for an IT company, so Nia wanted to remain dedicated to preserving Indonesian dance, by joining Selendang Sutra since 2017
